Originally titled WORLD'S GREATEST BOOKS, and later NBC UNIVERSITY THEATER OF THE AIR, this classic NBC radio series of the late 1940s and early 1950's presented hour-long adaptations of popular novels and classic literature, tied to a college-supervised home-study course supervised by the University of Louisville.

Each dramatization is a faithful, accurate adaptation of the original book. And they were done SO well, and are SO interesting, that even today they are a wonderfully fresh and engaging way to introduce your learners to these classics.

Each program is a full hour long, with an interesting background commentary about the author and his/her work inserted midway through the show.

Enrich and expand your homeschool studies! This collection can stand alone as a Classic Literature Curriculum for a full semester (one show a week + discussion/report), or makes an outstanding supplement to your current studies! If your student just doesn't have the time or "want to" to read through these books, these programs will still bring these "living books" to vivid life in a way they'll always remember. A great way to whet your kids' appetite for classic books.

Every program in this collection is "family friendly" and can be enjoyed by listeners of all ages -- though we suggest that these shows are most appropriate for ages 10 and up, due to the length of the shows and more complex stories.

Great entertainment for road trips, bedtime, family time, any time.

These are the original programs, not re-enactments -- entertainment the way it was when your grandparents were young.  (Makes a great gift idea for or FROM grandma and grampa, too)

Playable on any PC or Mac that has sound capabilities. No special software is needed — a FREE "old time radio" player is included on the CDs

IMPORTANT NOTE: Because of the size of these program files, NONE of these programs will ever be made available for downloading on our site. They are ONLY available in this special collection.

Important Note: This is a Computer CD!
The shows on this CD can only be played on your computer or on an MP3 compatible CD player. They will not play on a regular CD player. (We will include instructions on how to make good cassette copies of these shows, and also how to make your own Audio CDs with a computer CD burner.)

We've added more... a lot MORE to this
very special LIMITED EDITION collection.

FREE bonus on this jam-packed CD:

Free Bonus #1:
THE LEATHERSTOCKING TALES!
We found two great old serial versions of the classic American books, LAST OF THE MOHICANS and THE DEERSLAYER, both by James Fenimore Cooper. These two novels, together known as THE LEATHERSTOCKING TALES, are each serialized in thirteen 15 minute episodes (26 shows in all). While these are a lot more "primitive" than the shows on NBC University Theater (no surprise, since they were produced WAY back in 1932), these are GREAT dramatizations of these books, virtually adapting the complete books -- each make a quite exciting 13 day "cliff hanger serial".

Free Bonus #2:
FRANKENSTEIN!
Next, we added the complete serial version of the original classic monster story, FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Wolstoncraft Shelley. There are thirteen 15 minute episodes of this very early 1930s serial, which is faithfully based on the book (not the movies). Tame enough for all but the very youngest listeners, but creepy and exciting fun for all.

Free Bonus #3:
The ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES!
Flex your kids' deductive skills and follow along as the most famous literary detective of all time solves some of his most baffling and thrilling cases. Can YOU figure them out before Holmes does? We've included TWO DOZEN episodes of the classic "New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" series from the early 1940's, starring Basil Rathbone as Holmes. (NOTE: Because some of these shows have crimes or murders off screen, they might not be suitable for the very youngest listeners -- but trust us, this is still family entertainment and is easily "G" rated.)

Free Bonus #4:
THE BOOKS!

Interested in reading the original books on which these stories are based?
We've included the full text of 17 of these classic books on this CD!
Any time you like, you can reference a portion of the actual book, or read the whole thing.
Read it right on your computer or print out as much of the text as you wish.
That's a total of...
20 EPISODES OF NBC UNIVERSITY THEATER
+
39 EPISODES OF CLASSIC LIT SERIALS
+
24 EPISODES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES
+
17 FULL LENGTH BOOKS
